The Norwich Resident magazine and Sandra Reynolds modelling agency launched a competition to find catwalk models to take part in the fashion-filled week.

Not only were they in with the chance to feature in one of Norwich’s most exciting weeks, they were also competing to be the ‘ultimate face’ of the event.

Trevena Read and Sprowston Sixth Form student Damon Rushmer were crowned winners at last Thursday’s Fashion Excess show by members of the Norwich Fashion Week Board.

As well as a modelling contract with the agency, the female and male face won an exclusive photo shoot in The Norwich Resident magazine.

Mr Rushmer, of Old Catton, said he has been in the spotlight before as a pianist but he had never before been involved with such an extravagant event as fashion week.

He said: “I was speechless when I found out. It’s a weird phenomenon dreaming of it as a kid looking at the magazines and wishing I could get into the industry.

“If it wasn’t for my family, edging me on to do it, I wouldn’t be here today.”

The model winner featured in the Retailers Show wearing clothes from House of Frazer, Gallyons and Marks and Spencers, the Topman show and the finale show- Fashion Excess.

The 18-year-old said: “It’s pretty amazing to see what is around in Norwich. It’s nice to see Norwich doesn’t just offer one style.”

Miss Read, of Norwich, is studying at City College doing art and design.

She said she was nervous about walking the catwalk for the first time but loved it when the adrenaline kicked in.

The 16-year-old, who is interested in entering the fashion industry, added: “Honestly I was really surprised to win but I do feel really happy. All of the models were brilliant. This was my first time at fashion week and it was great to be a part of it and wear all the lovely clothes.

“I really enjoyed the Designers Show because all the clothes were unique and different.”

Tamsyn Morgan, Head of New Faces at the Sandra Reynolds agency, said: “We felt that Damon and Trevena not only had a lovely fresh look, perfect for our commercial clients, but also had a great attitude. They looked fantastic on the catwalk and will no doubt look great in front of the camera. We are really looking forward to working with them.”
